TALKING POINT
Image 1

Talking Point...... I would expect a 5 year old child to know right from wrong, and have some idea about the grey areas in between and where the boundaries lie. They would probably be able to judge for example that it would be considered greedy to eat too many sweets. The child like our politicians and bankers with 2 houses within London boundaries, would not be breaking any laws by eating too many sweets and may well indulge in a greedy feeding frenzy. So while establishing that our politicians and bankers have little or no more moral judgement than a 5 year old, we should perhaps ask ourselves the question why should we trust them again? It’s up to you.

I draw your attention to the 2 objects illustrated below. I believe that to recognise these to objects as items you should be collecting, has taken more judgement than a banker or politician can currently dream about. My judgement in selecting these 2 items as subjects of this article does not have to be particularly good, this only because their judgement would seem to be so singularly bad.

So why do I think these items will rise in value? The answer is simple. Because currently they are not valued. I believe this situation will change at some point. Item one, is a brown German vase that I purchased from a car boot for £1. The second is also a vase. It’s s piece of Pottery manufactured by Crown Ducal (white vase Spanish boy, with donkey), purchased from the inter-net for £11. The reasons these items are currently NOT valued and should be collected now, is very different from each piece in my opinion.

The reason you should collect tourist Kitsch is because you have been told not to. But be very careful not all kitsch should be collected. Don’t wait for me to tell you what should and should not be collected, I’m not going to tell you how to suck eggs here.

The second piece is the German vase. The sixty some-things are throwing away the baby with the bathwater in order to go all minimal. They think it’s ‘GONE OUT’, I think they’ve gone out their heads. It is and always will be a thing of beauty, get them now, it’s a no brainer. I got mine for £1, I could sell it to you for £10 or I could sit on it and wait. It’s money in the bank. *Remember values can rise and fall. *this is my disclaimer like the banks have. You can’t be sure I’ve been any shrewder than a 5 year old with regard to the value judgements I’ve just made, just bankers and politicians.

PS. Just in. New limited edition screen prints from the Big Smoke.

Best wishes, Andy

SUNN INN

WE are often described a quirky and interesting with a great breakfast but why else should you visit Potts????
I hope you will agree that Potts of Flemingate makes a great base from which to explore not only Beverley, but also the wider attractions of the East Riding of Yorkshire and Beyond. Having lived in the south west of England for 11 years I grew to love the beautiful scenery and mild climate of the area. Having moved to Beverley in 1999, I realised that it had a lot to live up to, and while the South West is a lovely place to live, Beverley and the surrounding area seems to grow with age, while a little colder, it rains less, with less rolling countryside, more interesting character. For every minus there seems to be a positive and I hope Beverley will grow on you too.

local pubs- Beverley- Potts of Flemingate
The Sun Inn- 100 yards where Eastgate, & Flemingate meet at the Minster.
Every Friday and Saturday night Live bands (quite loud can be rock/ blues or pop)
9.30 till 11.30. Quieter acoustic sessions on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

The Monks Walk (Haunted?) 200 yards Highgate- runs parallel to Eastgate, on the way into town, from Wednesday market to Minster. Often real fire, real ale,

The Odd-fellows. - Eastgate- 200 yards. On the road up to Wednesday market place and the town centre...... nice traditional local pub.

The  Lord Nelson- Opposite - A sports pub that runs darts, dominoes and pool football teams. Be prepared for footballers language at times if you use this pub. Sky sports and 20p pool table.

Hodsons  Flemingate- 200 yards. Turn right out of door. Cross the railway lines.200 yards. Live comedy on Thursday nights 3 acts 9pm start £6 on the door. Upstairs 2 snooker tables. No membership needed.

Fusion Bar -Wednesday market Place approx, 400 yards. Tuesday Night - Live Jazz.

The Ranch - Licensed Restaurant- 400 yards Great place for food and drink.

There are plenty of great eating and drinking places in Beverley but before I finish this section I will recommend The White Horse Inn, at the far side of town, all the places I’ve recommended so far are at this end of town, but the White Horse Inn ( known locally as Nellies) is close to the other large beautiful church in Beverley called St. Mary’s. Nellies is found at the other end of the street that runs next to St Mary’s called Hengate, (not far from the bus station). So why Nellies, well I don’t want to spoil the secret, but a visit to Beverley probably isn’t complete without a visit to Nellies. The great walk will give you chance to see the rest of the town too. 600 year old north bar gate. Guild Hall and museum open Fridays only. Treasure House and museum and Art Gallery. Guided Tours of the Minster roof space and Minster. Super Market on Saturday through Beverly streets in Saturday and Sunday market places. Small market at Wednesday at Wednesday Market place. Leisure Centre with sports hall, activities, & gym, and swimming pool just a short walk down from Potts of Flemingate approx. 100 yards. Bowls, tennis, skate park, sports pitches.

THE SUNN INN closeby entertainment FRIDAY & SATURDAY
